New Year

So this is my first post for the year 2009, which started out fairly boring since I was at home until the 3rd.

Haha I realized i never actually finished this post, since i started it IAP was coming to a close along with all the fun and relaxing things that IAP involves and now it's back to the real world...where MIT is hard and soul crushing.

I'm now in another dance group on campus besides DT I am now part of Mocha Moves and we had our first show this past weekend...yea its been that long since i actually posted anything (i've written stuff, but not actually posted them) which was awesome. I personally feel that Mocha is alot more fun that DT partially cause we're so small it a really awesome family atmosphere, unlike Ridonk (which is another hip-hop group on campus).

The love-hate relationship with MIT has begun again...I love it because there is always something do to on campus/off-campus any night during the week, like last night...but i hate it since there often isn't alot of time to actually do some of the fun stuff. Between 8.02 and my reading literature HASS class (the two taking up the most time) and Mocha as well as DT...hardly any room for fun.

Once again the three options are:
[ ]Sleep
[x]Study
[x]Party

fun fun fun...now back to work on my 5.111 pset *sigh*

Ugh Finals!

Finals next week....ahhhh so not ready even though I'm on pass/no record. I haven't had time to study because dancetroupe put on our show last week and we had a whole bunch a practices the week of shows and then we had five shows one on wed, two on Thurs. and two yesterday and then last night was the Afterparty.

Afterparty was so AMAZING since it was a party where almost everyone could dance!!! So I didn't get back to Simmons until like 2:30am. I'm actually thinking abour moving out of Simmons and into a more social dorm.

Look at me blogging when I should be studying, luckily I only have three finals to study for Calc, Bio, and my HASS class which is music, so that shouldn't be too bad. I'm actually having a hard time concentration because of last night.

I did come/go home for Thanksgiving, I know I'm sorry I didn't get to see anyone when I came home I was just so busy going to Disneyland and shopping for winter clothes, but I will definately see most of you when I come home in one week for Christmas!

Love love and hugs!

General Updates

It's been like 2 months since I last posted and for good reason; life here at MIT is hectic. For example I have a paper and three tests just this week, when two weeks ago I had three tests. 6 tests in the past two weeks = no free time.

So since I last posted I have joined MIT's dance team "dancetroupe" our first performances are about 3 weeks away. I have also joined Seminar XL which is like a study group and my groups have been finalized.

Simmons Hall is getting really cold, since my room is about 75% concrete, and the radiators don't work as well on the 9th floor as they do on the lower floors. I have my own personal heater, but that can't heat up my room fast enough. Last weekend's four day weekend was God sent and well needed. Most of us are currently stressed, since we have only about one more full week of lecture in our classes and then finals and then IAP and then another semester shall begin.

I'm looking forward to IAP, but unfortunately I have to stay here since one of my classes runs over into it, but a plus is my roommate is going home so I will have the room to myself for a month! :] Over IAP I will more than likely be taking at least two PE classes, since I looked at the course catalogue and nothing else (that's free) really appeals to me.

So hasn't snowed yet thank goodness and I get to come home for Thanksgiving but I am watching the weather very closely and hope that my flight doesn't get delayed...

One more thing.....like yea..... I still don't like Physics and Bio is hard when the last time you took it was freshman year in high school, so....hooray for Pass/No Record!!!!

O joy...tests

So classes started like 3 weeks ago, I lose track by now since I'm always up past midnight and the days start to blur together.

Yesterday I had my 18.01 Test which I'm pretty sure I passed since I haven't gotten an email saying I failed (they do do that), yes I switched from 18.01A to 18.01 which is a much more appropriate class for me and a couple others. I switched right after I turned in my first P-set as did many others. I met a guy who was originally enrolled in 18.02 then went to 18.01A and then finally switched to 18.01. That 18.01A p-set was killer, talk about torture doing math for more than 8 hours straight. Then earlier last week I has to stay up really late to finish my 21M.011 essay which even at the end I wasn't entirely happy with it so we should see when I get it back (luckily for this first one we get to do revisions).

I also switched to 8.01L which goes slower than 8.01, and in some ways it's harder since we are actually doing more work for a longer time period and we have to write detailed explanations of how we are solving the problem, almost utter torture.

So my room in Simmons is cold by California standards, so all p-set parties occur in the lounge on 8C which is fun and gets crazy after you have been up for a really long time doing work that as my friend Maeve puts it "Sucks at your soul" and eating brownies and ice cream and then start singing songs from the animated movie Anastasia.

Luckily I have Monday off (student-holidy so you dont go crazy) so I can recover since all this stress and work seriously takes a toll on my health.

I have 2 tests next week 8.01L and 7.012...joy

Classes Start TOMORROW!!

Boo and YAY! Classes start tomorrow, I'm happy because finally I have something productive to do =] but I'm sad because now I'll have something productive to do =[ it's a love hate relationship. So I am ready, I have all my books (all got at a good deal of course). I have to add 21M.011 (which is Introduction to Western Music) and the get the texts for that. But it's kind of fun being here for two weeks without any classes and going through Orientation and participating in Rush events.

I promise I will post pictures of my room in Simmons soon it's just taking a while with all the activities that are going on.

So the classes that I'm taking are

18.01A - Calculus I (faster than 18.01)

8.01 - Physics

7.012 - Introductory Biology

Sem.XL1 - Seminar XL (Study group type of class)

and adding

21M.011

So I have almost a full schedule I would just have to throw in PE and then I would =]

I will write more eventually, but I'm going to enjoy the last day of not having classes!!

So I'm Here!

I have finally arrived at MIT. I moved into my dorm on Thurs with most of my stuff, my mom is planning to mail me more stuff in the coming weeks when she gets home. I've been so busy that I haven't had the time to write anything and classes haven't even started yet! There are just so many activites going on between Orientation and REX (Residence Exploration) and make-up tests and placement tests, which are the only non-fun things that I have to do this weekend.

There is a rollercoaster and Giant Tetris over at East Campus which is where I'm headed to after I'm done typing this.

So my mom and aunt left yesterday. I miss my mom already :[ but..... I'm glad to see Tina go :] she used to nag the crap out of me.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to stay in Simmons, cause it's the one that I like the most; I'm gradually altering my sleeping schedule to become nocturnal and it's working, so pretty much I'm going to stay on California time which would be alot easier if my roommate didn't go to bed at about 9 or 10.

Well that's all for now, time for rollercoaster and tetris and dancing!!!

California Budget Crisis

I know that the title of my blog is "Life at MIT" but I haven't actually left California left and if you're watching the news you might see something about protesting state workers that have been laid-off; but when you see the news on TV they forget to leave a few important facts out.
Like the fact that lawmakers intially proposed a budget that had a $15 million dollar shortfall, which would be money we would have had to borrow once again adding a substantial amount to our already large deficit.

The main problem here is that CA democrats want to raise taxes and give more money to programs and impliment new programs, while also getting rid of the state deficit. Which is impossible. As if California's don't get taxed enough already, and you should see how much money we spent on uneeded things (I could write pages on that).

So the govenator has the right out it, we have to cut spending somehow and we need a budget and soon, we have only enough money to last into September. So wait for it...let me put it in bold and caps: PART TIME, SEASONAL, AND TEMPORARY WORKERS are being laid-off. Wait let me repeat it: PART TIME, SEASONAL, AND TEMPORARY WORKERS!!!. What does that mean...? hmm, maybe that you were going to get laid-off eventually why not now... And as for the workers whose pay is going to get cut to federal min. wage, to $6.55/hr instead of what they're getting now, they should be thankful, because it seems that many have forgotten what happened last time: you didn't get paid AT ALL...and that like last time you will get paid when we finally have a budget.

Whoa I need to calm down and so should those workers.
If you want to know more about this (though I doubt it unless you live in CA) because there are alot of details.
